Camp Wonder has a dedicated and caring staff of over 100 that provides an environment of encouragement and acceptance to children with chronic and life threatening skin diseases.
The counselor staff (ages 17 and up) stays with the children in the cabin and accompanies them to activities all day long. The medical staff, from UCLA, USC, UCSF and Stanford, provides medical care to all the children.
Typical medical care at Camp Wonder includes medicine distribution, bandage changing, g-tube feeding, application of topical cream and wound care. The medical staff works out of "Club Med". It is important for the kids to see their medical professional in a non-clinical setting. This helps ease fear of hospitals and medical professionals.
The "day volunteers" are older adults (mostly retired) who come to assist with sound equipment, water distribution, transportation around the camp site and retrieval of medicine from the local pharmacy. In addition we have a camp director and assistant director.
